The Real Heroes

Town of Gander, Gander
100 Elizabeth Drive, Gander, NL A1V 1G7
The Real Heroes mural by Gander artist Melissa Francis of Studio 120 is located on the exterior wall of the town hall building. It pays tribute to essential workers: healthcare workers, firefighters, postal workers, truckers, and many more who have ensured the public that essential care, supplies and services are not interrupted during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Francis said she “created this painting as a thank you to those people that put their own lives on hold, and sacrificed endlessly for us to continue our lives as normal as possible – the REAL Heroes.” The Town of Gander supported her idea by providing materials and a space for the work. Francis also partnered with artist Marshall Borland; together, they created a big "thank you card" mural for essential workers in the neighbouring town of Botwood.
