The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is the oldest police force in Canada, dating back to 1729. Her Majesty QE II presented the prefix “Royal” to the Newfoundland Constabulary in 1979. The Legacy Statue comprises two life-sized figures: a constable dressed in period uniform from the late 1800s walking with a little girl. Carrying a bulls-eye lantern in one hand, the constable holds the little girl’s hand with the other. The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Historical Society commissioned the Legacy Statue to commemorate the important ongoing contributions the members of the RNC have made to the province.
Artist bio
Luben Boykov was born in 1960 in Sofia, Bulgaria, and immigrated to Canada in 1990. He is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia. He has been inducted into the Royal Canadian Academy and awarded the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal for his extensive and widespread output of sculptures and exhibitions.
