High Street, c.1940 was one of the historical murals created in 1998 by local youth under the Historical Mural Project, a partnership of Youth Services Canada and CNVAS (Central Newfoundland Visual Arts Society).

Fifteen local youth participated in the project. They researched old photos and designed and painted the murals in various locations, including this one on High Street, depicting the street as it was in the 1940s. Some of the murals from this project are inside the Gordon Pinsent Centre for the Arts.

The Historical Mural Project was built on the success of a previous CNVAS member's large-scale historical four-panel mural installed at Church Road Park. It was a partnership with the local Kiwanis Club.
